Main Class
DLR Entry
From a seated guard, we’re going to look to use our inside hand to grab the knee. Make sure this grip is wrist deep. Finger deep can be stripped. Note: This is a great guard to use if someone is stepping in between your legs from the outset.
We’re going to slide in, keeping our hips on the inside. We’re going to grab the heel, trapping the toes with our forearm, while we feed in our hook. We still maintain our knee grip.
Once our foot hook is in, we still maintain our knee grip. We’re going to look to upgrade our heel grip into an underhook.
While we’re doing all of this, our far leg is going to be close to our chest.
Our underhook grip is going to go under, nice and deep, and grab our own shin.
With this, we’re looking to get them to turn their knee. Our other foot is going to go behind their far knee, and we’re going to kick it out, looking to get their hands to the mat.
Once we do this, we’re going to use our far hook to pull us to our side, so we’re facing inside. For now, we’re going to stop here.
Tripod Sweep + Waiter Sweep
So, super simple decision here. If he stays up on his far foot, we’re going to shoot our chest in and grab, with an overhook, his far ankle. Now we just use our knee on our far foot and our DLR hook to push him forward to sweep. We pummel our DLR inside and get up.
If he drops to his knee, then we don’t really have the leverage on the foot, so we’re going to do a similar sweep, just the other direction. Same idea with shooting our chest in, but we’re going to get an underhook on the far foot. Our inside knee is going to come to our chest, under his knee, so we get a kind of cross. My hands are going to scoop up, like I’m holding two plates. This is called waiter guard. From here, I just pull my hands up and push my knee away to sweep and come up. From here, again, we pummel in our DLR hook, and we’re good.
