1

Underhooks

Player A

Both players are hand-fighting, attempting to get underhooks. An underhook is not just your arm underneath. It’s a tight connection, chest attached, head on the inside. No guard pull, snap downs, or grips below the hips.

Player B

Win Condition(s)

2

Unlocked Passing

Player A

The top player is attempting to pass. Must trap one or both legs between their legs before passing. Look for redirects and compression to pass, once you get there.

Player B

Player B is attempting to maintain guard and sweep. No submission for now.

Win Condition(s)

Attacking the Underhook

Player A

Top player is in side control, starting with the leg side arm on the hips. Must fight to get an underhook, keep chest connected, and pass into mount.

Player B

Bottom player is attempting to get the underhook as well and use it to recover guard or get up to the knees.

Win Condition(s)

Main Class

1

Tripod Passing: Compression

  1. Start with grips on the shins, compressing down and stepping over top.

  2. Keep your shoulders over your hips to create pressure down on the feet.

  3. Have your training partner try to move you. If they can move you, that’s fine. Try to maintain a safe position and immediately re-enter the headquarters position.

2

Tripod Passing: The Tilt

  1. Once we’re secure in this position, we’re attempting to get an underhook. If we have one foot trapped, we get the opposite foot as an underhook. If we have both trapped, either side works.

  2. We get our palm to the mat. Once we do, we then drop our shoulders, and lift our hips, planting our head on the mat.

  3. The pressure should move, immediately, from their feet to their shoulders. Head based on the mat. Our palm turns into the forearm on the mat.

  4. We’re attempting to walk our hips over the knees.
