Adults: Taking the Back
Warm-up
Behind the Elbows
Player A
Handfighting, but with the objective of getting past the elbows and getting to a body lock on the back of the body. So, the ear is connected to the back you have a tight connection. Hold for three seconds, then reset.
Player B
Win Condition(s)
Pass to Flank
Player A
Player A is standing and passing. Their objective is to get chest-to-back. As soon as the chest touches the back, that’s a win. Look to pass using passes that open up the back or look for grips that open up the back.
Player B
Player B is attempting to stop the pass with guard recovery: no submissions or sweeps. Once passed, Player B is attempting to recover guard or stand up.
Win Condition(s)
If Player A gets chest-to-back or Player B recovers guard or stands up, that’s a win, switch top and bottom.
Side Control Under Elbows
Player A
Player A has a chest-to-back connection from side control. Your goal is to maintain the chest-to-back connection and stay under the elbows to secure the back or a submission. You can be under both elbows or one elbow, so starting with a chest wrap or starting with a seatbelt works. Securing the back would be both hooks in. Securing a submission, while maintaining chest-to-back, should be straightforward.
Player B
Player B is attempting clear connections from under their elbows and get their back to the mat or get up. Get both of your elbows connected to your ribs, so that you can rotate.
Win Condition(s)
If Player A gets both hooks in or gets a submission OR if Player B gets Player A from underneath their elbows and gets back to the mat or gets up, that’s a win. Switch positions.
