Handfighting to get to a good position. Our goal is to defeat their grips, either by stripping theirs or countering theirs.
Legs Smashed
Player A
The top player is attempting to bring both legs together and against the mat. That’s the only objective at the moment.
Player B
The bottom player is trying to stay square and make connections.
Win Condition(s)
There is no win for the bottom player. The top player wins if they get legs smashed together and to one side or the other. Switch if that happens.
Passing from Half Guard
Player A
Top player starts in half guard, working to pass.
Player B
Bottom player is attempting to sweep.
Win Condition(s)
If the top player finishes the pass, they win. If the bottom player sweeps, they win.
Main Class
Vertical Knees
We need to work to get the knees vertical. Grip on the hip. Grip under the knee.
Pressure and weight on the hip.
Foot flares out, we step up, and we jump/move laterally to bring the knees vertical.
Finish the Pass
From this position, we can pass in many different ways. X-Passes, outside camping, knee cuts, and more. But tonight we’re going to work on smashing.
To smash, we’re going to continue moving laterally.
We’re going to drive our knee over the bottom leg.
We’re going to bring our outside leg over the top of the thigh.
We then move around to the back.
