Adults: Q&A
Warm-up
Hands to the Mat + Connected
Player A
Players work to get their opponents’ hands or hand to the mat. Once you get a hand to the mat, you work to connect your hands around their body or a leg. So, we’re looking to destabilize our partner and then connect to their body. If you connect your hands, keep them connected; it’s your partner’s objective to disconnect. Once your partner disconnects, then you continue.
Player B
Win Condition(s)
Sweep/Pass
Player A
Player A is on top, attempting to pass or take the back with hooks in. Player A, to finish the pass, needs to have their hands connected to their partner in order to win.
Player B
Player B is attempting to sweep or submit.
Win Condition(s)
If Player A passes or gets the back OR Player B sweeps or submits, then flip top and bottom.
Side Control Hold Down
Player A
Player A is just trying to stay connected chest-to-chest and control Player B. If you’re a blue or purple belt, you also have to get an underhook on the far side, while still maintaining chest-to-chest. If you’re a brown belt or higher, you have to transition to mount after getting a far side underhook.
Player B
For Player B, your job is simple. Get your feet back between you and your partner, so recover guard. Make sure you create frames, which enable you to recover.
