Main Class
Setting up the Pendulum Sweep
A pendulum sweep requires two things: control of an arm on one side and a perpendicular angle.
First, we use a two-on-one to isolate on arm and drag it across. Use the elevation of your hips to create a disconnect between your opponent and their grips. Use a cross grip on the sleeve and a same-side elbow pass.
Pull your knees to your chest to break the posture. Reach around with the same side you have the arm trapped and either grab the lat or seam on the side of the gi.
Once posture is broken, you must move your head away from the trapped arm side. Your head must end up on the other side of their head.
Use your leg to rotate and keep their head away. Stop here.
Finishing the Pendulum Sweep
From this perpendicular angle, we’re going to use our far leg as a pendulum.
Swing the leg and really explore the space. Make a large circle. Once the leg hits the bottom of the pendulum motion, sweep it underneath their body.
Roll and land on top, in mount.
If you’re experienced and familiar with armlocks, go for an armlock from here; otherwise, stop with authority.
