Player B
Win Condition(s)
Each player starts with each other’s wrist. No takedowns. The objective is to get hands connected around a leg and to pick the foot off the mat.
Half-Guard Chest-to-Chest
Player A
Starts on top, in half guard. The objective is to get chest-to-chest. Don’t do anything else. Just get chest-to-chest. Control your partner on the bottom.
Player B
Starts on the bottom in half guard. Objective: to get back to closed guard. No sweeping. No submitting. No getting up. Recover your guard.
Win Condition(s)
If Player A gets chest-to-chest or Player B recovers guard, switch top and bottom.
Half-Guard Chest-to-Chest Passing
Player A
Starts on top, in half guard. The objective is to get chest-to-chest. Once you get chest-to-chest, that unlocks you to pass.
Player B
Starts on the bottom in half guard. Objective: sweep or submit.
Win Condition(s)
If Player A gets a pass or Player B recovers guard, switch top and bottom.

Smashing the Lockdown
So, the lockdown can be an annoying guard to deal with. As a note, I honestly wouldn’t recommend using it because I think it’s mechanically weak in the sense that your frames are gone and fully devoted to holding onto the leg, so guard recovery off a failed lockdown is extremely difficult. However, that’s not going to stop other people from attempting to use it. We’re going to over two options to deal with the lockdown.
First option, we’re going to smash the lockdown. Now, with all the lockdowns, it’s their objective to get an underhook on the same side where they have the lockdown. This allows him to off-balance me and start putting me in trouble.
To stop the underhook, we’re going to shoot our shoulders back, along with our hips, and settle our knees on the mat.
Next, we’re going to bring our head across the body and drive our shoulder into their stomach. With this, I’m going to grab over the top of his legs, with a double over grip.
I’m going to take my non-trapped knee and tuck it under his hip, making sure I have a kickstand to maintain my base.
Finally, I’m going to straighten my leg to kick out of the lockdown. To finish, I can either stack the legs and move up the body, or turn my hips and slide through.
Peeling the Lockdown
The second option does still require me to maintain my underhook, but it’s actually going to require both underhooks. Instead of shooting my hips back, I’m going to stay tight with my underhooks and maintain control.
From here, I want to keep my hips low, and I’m going to pummel my free leg underneath.
I’m going to bring my far leg across and use the outside of my foot to peel off his inside leg.
Once I peel, I gotta walk my foot up under and keep it close to the butt.
From here, I can smash the leg down and move into passing. I’m in a strong position.
