Warm-up

1

Head Inside/Underhook

Player A

Player A’s objective is to get the top of their head inside on their partner, without conceding underhooks, and to keep their head there for as long as possible.

Player B

Player B’s objective is to get an underhook. Any underhook. Remember to cup the shoulder, not across the back.

Win Condition(s)

If Player B gets the underhook, then switch who is going for what.

2

Closed Guard Posture (x2)

Player A

Player A is on top in closed guard. Their objective is to just stay postured up for as long as possible.

Player B

Player B’s objective is to break the posture of player A and keep them down for as long as possible.

Win Condition(s)

This is not a win condition.

3

Closed Guard Break/Arm Across

Player A

Player A is on top in closed guard. They are attempting to break the guard and get up to a foot. If they do that, they win.

Player B

Player B is attempting to break the posture and drag the arm of Player B to or past the center line.

Win Condition(s)

If the top player breaks the guard, that’s a win and switch. If the bottom player gets the posture broken and an arm across, that’s a win and switch.

Main Class

1

Omoplata

  1. Note about the overarching objective of jiu-jitsu.

Getting past our opponents’ five limbs to control the space between the elbows and knees, and then isolating a limb to apply compression or tension to that limb to submit.

  2. Note about posture, base, and balance on top in guard.

  3. Hooking the leg and pulling the knees to the chest to create opportunities. This is for entries into leg attacks. We aren’t going to be doing that.

  4. Note about the way they can stop the leg entries is to grab the head or post in the armpit. Note why grabbing the head is a bad idea.

  5. So, they thumbpost, which they think is safer. We reach across and trap the arm, then wet noodle our leg toward their head.

  6. Our far leg stomps on the head to keep their posture down, and we back curl with our leg.

  7. Shoot our arm up to stop the roll. Worst case scenario, we get a sweep.

2

Finishing Omoplata

  1. Once we have them down and flattened, we need to keep both the wrist and the elbow. We can use a grip on the elbow and staying tight to do that.

  2. We curl our top leg in first, then our outer leg.

  3. From here we can seatbelt or S-grip under the far armpit, and we stay tight, but we sit up bringing our knees to the floor.
