Warm-up

1

Head-to-Head to Bodylock

Player A

Both players start head-to-head, neutral. From here, we’re hand-fighting, looking to ultimately get to a bodylock. I want you to focus on your head positioning. If you get the angle, go for the bodylock. You can also go for armdrags, collar drags, duck unders; it doesn’t matter. The point is to get to the bodylock. Once someone gets to the bodylock, that’s not the end; they’re going to maintain that bodylock. No takedowns, but it’s the job of the other person to fight the grips and work to get turned back towards their partner. Once that happens, keep going.

Player B

Win Condition(s)

2

Chest-to-Chest

Player A

Player A is going to start seated, with a butterfly guard and hooks inside. No sweeping. No getting up. No wrestling. No reversing position. This is about learning and growth. No about winning. Your entire objective here is to off-balance your partner and get their hands onto the mat as much as possible. That could be placing their hands above you on the mat, under your arms, on either side of your body, etc. Doesn’t matter. I just want you to focus on doing that and then keeping their hands there as long as possible. Again, no sweeping, no getting up, no wrestling up, no reversing position. Just focus on destabilizing.

Player B

Player B, your entire objective is to get chest-to-chest. You may not back up. Stay engaged, fight back square, work to get past their frames and their knees. Chest-to-chest is all you’re going for.

Win Condition(s)

Once Player B gets chest-to-chest, reset. SAME PERSON ON TOP AND BOTTOM FOR THE ENTIRE ROUND. No switching.

Main Class

1

Knee Staple

  1. From here, we have to get them to their back. Make sure you keep your range good and deny grips.

  2. We’re going to step inside, to the knee pit, and staple the bottom leg. At the same time, we’re going to grab the top side lapel and keep the foot from getting inside. Objective one is to staple the leg, and objective two is to keep his foot out of the party.

  3. From here, we’re going to come forward, putting pressure on the knee. That’s our objective: to drive pressure onto the knee and bring it back to his chest. So, don’t bring your pressure over his head. Bring your pressure toward their head, and down.

  4. Once we have this pressure on their hips, we’re going to slightly relieve the pressure and use our other hand to pop the knee out of the way.

  5. From here, I’m getting chest-to-chest, keeping the bottom leg stapled and my knee against their thigh. We’ll stop here for now.

2

Finish to Mount

  1. From here, I need to get a cross face. If I see the opening, I can just go for it. If not, I’m going to pin their wrist to the mat, giving me access to the head.

  2. From here, we’re going to cross face. If I just grab his head and turn it, but don’t apply pressure, then it’s not going to accomplish what I want to do. I want to apply pressure. From here, again, just like we were doing on the knee, my pressure isn’t going over his head; it’s going into his head and down. To do this, I’m going to bring my head down toward the mat.

  3. Once we have good pressure, I’m going to also get my underhook and start driving it up to create room for my knees.

  4. Now, I’m going to walk my knees toward my underhook and slide into mount. From here, we do not relieve the pressure. From here, if we keep the pressure, a lot of submissions open up.

  5. From here, I’m getting chest-to-chest, keeping the bottom leg stapled and my knee against their thigh. We’ll stop here for now.
