Player B

Win Condition(s)

Both players are looking for 2-on-1s. That could be a Russian, armdrag, whatever. Control their arm, get inside head position, with your two grips on one of theirs. If you get to that position, hold it for as long as possible. It’s your partner’s job to get out of it.

Arm Drag from Grip Fighting

  1. With some distance, we’re going to look to arm drag from this position. Earlier this week we worked on the elevator sweep from butterfly, which is a great option if we are in close. If they’re actively pressuring and we have our feet in between their legs, then the elevator sweep is right there. If they have distance, though, we’ll have to close that distance to get the elevator sweep, and sometimes that can be difficult, especially if they don’t want you close.

  2. This opens up other options, like wrestle ups, building height, etc. It also opens up arm drags. To arm drag, we’re going to get a same-side wrist grip. With our other hand, we’re going to get a nice, high grip, up in the armpit.

  3. From here, we’re going to push the wrist in, and pull the armpit to us, like we’re trying to pull them past us.

  4. With our feet, we’re going to base our inside foot into the inside of their knee. This gives us a connection, in case we lose our grip. Our outside grip foot is going to come out, to the outside, to create a pathway for us.

  5. As we drag past, we’re looking to trap their arm. We have the angle; we cannot let them get their arm back. We need to wrap our arm over their forearm. We also need to grip their shoulder tightly and keep our chest pressed against theirs. And that’s where we’re pausing.

2-on-1

  1. If we mess up our hand fighting, what can happen a lot of times is that our partner looks to frame on our shoulder or our head. From these positions, it’s difficult to arm drag because the angle is awkward.

  2. To fix this, we’re going to get a 2-on-1. Reaching with our opposite side hand to grab the wrist, and then our same side hand is going to grab the elbow. With these grips, we’re going to try and pull their arm across our body.

  3. NOTE: When we do this, we want our elbows attached to our hips. If we grab the grip and have our elbows further away, we lose control, and he gains control. We’re stronger with our elbows closer.

  4. Once we have this, we have two options. We’re only going to work the one, because the other is the elevator sweep. If we are going for the elevator sweep, we’re going to use the 2-on-1 to slide in close, while still sitting up, to get our underhook, and then hit the elevator sweep.

  5. But, don’t worry about that currently. What we’re going to work on is an entry into SLX. We have the 2-on-1, and we’re going to pull it, while we go to our back and scoot our hips in, elevating our partner.

  6. From here, we’re going to redirect his hands by passing the 2-on-1 across our body.

  7. From here, we shoot up into a tight SLX. Knee in the middle, outside foot to the hip, shooting up our hips, so that our shin touches our ankle. Once here, we whip our knees and hip up and in to make him sit.
